San Antonio, TX – Woman Fatally Struck by Truck on NW Loop 410

San Antonio, TX (April 14, 2025) – A woman lost her life in a late-night crash on the northwest side of San Antonio on April 12 when she was hit by a truck while walking along Loop 410.

According to local police, the collision occurred around 10:15 p.m. in the 7500 block of NW Loop 410. Authorities say the woman, who has not yet been identified, was walking westbound across the main lanes of the highway—a section where pedestrian access is prohibited—when the accident happened.

Investigators noted that the driver of a truck traveling along the same stretch did not see the pedestrian in time to avoid impact. After the crash, the driver remained at the scene and provided assistance. Police confirmed that the driver will not face any charges in connection with the incident. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. Her identity is pending notification of family, and officials have not stated why she was walking on the highway. The crash remains under investigation at this time.

We hope those affected by this tragic loss find comfort and support during this difficult time. Our deepest condolences go out to them.

Pedestrian Accidents in Texas

San Antonio, TX – Woman Fatally Struck by Truck on NW Loop 410Texas continues to rank among the highest in the nation for pedestrian fatalities. In 2023 alone, the state saw more than 5,000 serious pedestrian accidents, many of which took place in major urban areas. With growing population centers and increasingly busy roads, the risks for pedestrians remain high across the state. Safety officials urge both drivers and pedestrians to remain vigilant at all times.

Understanding why these incidents occur can help bring awareness and encourage safer practices. Below are some contributing factors and concerns tied to pedestrian crashes:

  • Limited Visibility at Night: A large number of pedestrian accidents occur after dark. Reduced lighting, dark clothing, and poor visibility make it harder for drivers to detect someone walking near or on the roadway. Using reflectors or light-colored attire can help increase visibility.
  • Crossing Highways or Freeways: These roads are not designed for pedestrian access, and walking on them is often illegal. Despite this, some individuals—due to emergencies, car breakdowns, or lack of sidewalks—end up in these hazardous areas, increasing their risk of being hit.
  • Driver Distraction: Even a brief distraction like checking a phone or adjusting the radio can result in a driver not seeing a pedestrian in time. Distracted driving remains one of the top causes of serious pedestrian injuries and deaths.
  • Impairment from Alcohol or Drugs: Both drivers and pedestrians under the influence are more prone to poor decision-making and decreased reaction time. This combination significantly increases the chance of a deadly encounter.
  • Lack of Safe Crosswalks or Sidewalks: In many parts of Texas, especially in older neighborhoods or industrial zones, infrastructure doesn’t support safe walking routes. This forces pedestrians to walk along or cross dangerous roads without protection.
